Lamorna derives from the Cornish word Nansmornow, meaning “Valley of the Sea”. Lamorna is a picturesque village and rocky cove in West Cornwall, about 4 miles south of Penzance. It became famous in the early 20th century as a haven for artists of the Newlyn School.
Local legend tells of the Sea Bucca, a powerful water spirit who was cursed by a witch and transformed into a dark brown conger eel with tangled seaweed for hair.
