If you’ve ever had the pleasure of sliding into a fruited sour craft beer, you’ll know it’s a style that’s as playful as it is complex. With their fruit flavours, refreshing tartness, and an often unusual or vivid colour, fruited sours have become a firm favourite for adventurous modern craft beer enthusiasts.

But where did this style come from, and how has it found a home in the world of Cornish craft beer?

Sour beer is one of the oldest styles in brewing, despite what it might seem like today. They date back to centuries before refrigeration and modern sanitation. In Belgium and parts of Germany, brewers embraced wild yeasts and bacteria that naturally fermented beer, creating distinctively tart, funky flavours. Styles like Lambic, Gueuze, and Berliner Weisse became real classics, often served with fruit syrups or made with real fruit during fermentation.

While traditional sours relied on spontaneous fermentation, the modern day craft beer industry has embraced more controlled and rational brewing methods, blending lactic acid bacteria with carefully chosen fruits. From raspberry Berliner Weisse to mango gose, brewers have discovered that fruit balances the acidity with sweetness while adding vibrant aroma, colour, and character. That helps to create a beer that’s as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the palate.

Fruited sours are super versatile craft beers. They can be tart and puckering, lightly tangy, or even dessert-like, depending on the fruit and brewing approach. They appeal to long standing craft beer fans and newer fans, especially those who want to try something fresh, fruity, and brewed with real character.

That’s My Jam is our take on the Fruited Sour

Last year we worked with another craft brewery to create our first ever fruited sour, it went down a storm so we tweaked her a little and continue to regularly brew her in our Cornish brewery.

That’s My Jam is a celebration of juicy, jammy flavour with a refreshingly tart edge. Packed with raspberries and brewed with care, it’s bright, lively, and unapologetically fun. She is the perfect beer for sipping by the Cornish coast, watching the sunset, and soaking up that sea breeze.

If you love the sour style then this is the one for you.
