As a forward thinking Cornish brewery we love to share the passion for craft beer with great partners and collaborations. A while back head brewer Callum had the seed of an idea for a great new Cornish beer, and in Colwith Farm Potatoes and Farm Shop he found the perfect partner for something truly unique. Brewed with the finest Wilja potatoes from Colwith Farm, the Roast Potato and Rosemary Wheat Beer is a true testament to the artistry and innovation of craft brewing. Read on to find out more about how this collaboration produced a new brew.

The Growth of a Unique Beer

We got together with Colwith Farm to discuss and share ideas about a new beer. In previous years we have relished the opportunity to make seasonal beer, so a savoury focused wheat beer with that Sunday Roast vibe was something that came to fore pretty quickly. They had the perfect potato for the job in hand.

A Traditional Weizen Base with a Twist

The heart of this unique beer is a traditional Weizen base, characterized by its cloudy appearance and signature clove-like flavour profile. However, what truly sets this brew apart is the addition of those locally sourced Wilja potatoes, fresh rosemary, and a touch of Cornish sea salt – all carefully combined to create this craft Cornish beer.

Tasting Notes

The Potato & Rosemary Wheat Beer, clocking in at a sessionable 4.5% alcohol content, is a sensory journey that begins from the moment the can is cracked open. On the nose, you're greeted with a tantalizing blend of herbal and spiced notes. It's a fragrance that evokes the very essence of a Sunday roast after a wild walk on the Cornish coast, with its wild rosemary bushes and the briny tang of the nearby sea.

 Cans on the line

With the first sip, the full wheat body takes centre stage, and the distinctive clove flavour of a traditional Weizen beer shines through. The addition of the Wilja potatoes introduces a subtle earthiness that harmonises beautifully with the wheat, creating a rich, hearty base. This is further elevated by the aromatic rosemary, which adds depth and a delightful herbaceous quality.

The final, delightful touch is the Cornish sea salt, which doesn't overwhelm but rather enhances the overall experience. It leaves a gentle, savory linger, as if you've just enjoyed a delicious roast by the fireside, but in liquid form.

A True Cornish craft beer

What sets this beer apart is its ability to encapsulate the essence of a winter in Cornwall. Our collaboration with Colwith Farm highlights the power and quality of local ingredients, and the result is a craft beer that is not just a beverage but a reflection of our brewery’s innovation, progression and passion for locally inspired beer. This beer shows the potential for unique and memorable flavours that can be discovered when passionate brewers like ourselves collaborate with local farms like Colwith Farm.
