Our favourite beaches in West Cornwall
Our home in West Cornwall is a constant source of inspiration for our growing Cornish brewery. When we aren't in the brewery, you'll find us out on the coast path, in the sea surfing or hanging out on the beach with family and friends. So we thought it would be worth sharing some of our favourite beaches in the local area with you.
Porthcurno
A spot known far and wide. Porthcurno boast golden sands and an almost tropical appeal in the summer months. Flanked by the stunning Logan Rock on one side and the Minnack Theatre on the other, it is a place well worth a visit and there are plenty of quaint villages nearby to find a refreshing pint of the good stuff. Failing that, we'd advise a couple of 330ml Meor IPAs or Porth Pilsner on the beach.
Marazion
Just six or so miles from our Cornish brewery home in Hayle is Mounts Bay, home to Marazion beach and the most photographed castle possible - St MIchael's Mount. A lovely beach, with sand stretching from Marazion to Penzance and plenty of coast path to enjoy, alongside cafes and pubs to enjoy a pint of Cornish beer.
Perranuthnoe
Just around the corner from Marazion is the smaller cove at Perranuthanoe. It's a real beauty. A small cove which is often quiet and also gets some decent surf every now and again, it is also home to an amazing beach cafe and a delightful pub - both are well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Praa Sands
A little further East from Perranuthanoe you will find Praa Sands. This is a glorious stretch of fine white sand, lapped by the inviting Atlantic. It is also a spot that is well known for superb surf, a place the crew here at St Ives Brewery frequent when there are waves to be had. There's options for places to eat and drink that are literally on the beach, so you can soak in that view and enjoy an après surf refreshment.
Sennen
Way out West is the village of Sennen and its incredible beach. The final big and West facing beach in Cornwall, pointing straight out into the big blue Atlantic ocean. It's a stunning place, with all you might need for a great day out, from fish and chips to great pubs, plus, like many of our choices it's a super place for some wave riding. The village itself has everything you need for a day at the beach, with cafes and pubs to choose from as well as a surf shop and places to get surf lessons or hire equipment.
Gwithian
Just up the road from our brewery in Cornwall is Gwithian, which is just a section of three miles of sand stretching from Hayle to Godrevy. It's a place to hang with the family, catch some waves and soak in the sun in the summer. You can enjoy a beer of ours at the nearby Chomp restaurant at Three Mile Beach (should be open from Easter onwards) or the Red River Inn in the village of Gwithian.
Porthmeor
Situated in St Ives, Porthmeor is our spiritual home, a place we have spent many an hour with friends and family. Backed by the Tate Gallery it is a beach famed for great surf and with plenty of options for great food and drink. We love Porthmeor, it's a quintessential Cornish day out if you are in the area - you can always dip into the harbourside of St Ives for a pint of our beer in The Sloop Inn.
Portheras Cove
If you really enjoy an adventure or want to get decently off the beaten track then Portheras Cove is a secluded beach accessible via a coastal path, offering tranquillity away from the crowds. Portheras is a tiny little fishing cove, with very little there other than a beautiful little traditional slipway and some of the finest views in Cornwall. Keep this one to yourself.
Carbis Bay
Carbis Bay is a stunning spot, home to the Carbis Bay Hotel and offering a great secluded beach which is perfect for a spot of swimming and splashing around with the kids. The hotel has a few options for eating just off the beach too, with Adam Handling's restaurant The Ugly Butterfly offering high end eating as well as other restaurants and bistros. It's a favourite spot to enjoy views across St Ives Bay towards Godrevy lighthouse and is often lake-like calm.
We love where we live, the Cornish landscape is a huge inspiration for our Cornish brewery. If you are i the area and need some advice, then pop in for a pint at the taproom and someone will be able to help you.
