Cornish Beaches for Beers
It's that time of the year when we are starting to plan beaches days with family and friends, it's one of the real joys of being a craft brewery in Cornwall. Spending time enjoying the fruits of our labour with the sand between our toes.
So, here are a few of favourite spots to enjoy a cold can of Cornish craft beer.
Porthmeor.
Our spiritual home, and one of the finest beaches in Cornwall, if not the UK. Fine white sands meet the brilliant turquoise Atlantic ocean, all backed by the Tate Gallery and the town of St Ives.
There are great places to eat and drink as well as a great surf school, making this one of our top spots to crack a cold can of Porth Pilsner or Meor IPA. It's an even better spot when the surf gods do us a favour and push some great waves in too. See you in the line-up.
Gwithian.
A huge stretch of sand at the other end of the bay, flanked by Godrevy lighthouse and beach on one side, and the towans on the other. From one end to the other is around three miles of golden sand, perfect for beach time, surfing and dog walks.
There are also plenty of places to enjoy food or drink, with Three Mile Beach set back in the dunes with their gastro beach bar Chomp serving our beers in beautiful surroundings. Gwithian is an amazing place to hang out, watch the surf and catch a brilliant sunset too.
Perranuthanoe.
A South Coast gem. Just across the that thin part of the county, from our brewery in Hayle, is Mounts Bay, home of the illustrious St Michael's Munt. At the East end of that bay you'll find Perranuthanoe, a beautiful and secluded cove with a a real quintessentially Cornish beach holiday vibe.
There are the views you'd want, with glimpses of the mount, but also that seclusion of a small cove that keeps the numbers down. Lifeguarded through the main season and great for a dip or a surf, you can also enjoy a bite to eat in the beachside cafe just above the sand. We love to take a cold one with us, with a Slipway or Mean As being the go-to for a hazy beer beach day.
Gwenvor.
One way out west, at the tip of Cornwall and pointing straight out into the wild Atlantic ocean. A perfect spot for a Cornish beer, a spot of surfing and a sunset.
This is a place we love year round, with it providing some of the best surf in Cornwall, plus dramatic views as the walk down from the top car park is a bit of a mission.
There are a few pubs nearby and on the way home to replenish the liquids after a day enjoying a picnic on the beach with the family.
Drop in and visit the team at The Botallack Arms for a pint and a bite to eat.
St Ives Harbour.
Alright, it's not technically a beach, but you can't beat a pint in The Sloop in the sunshine. Sit outside and soak up that summer atmosphere and enjoy good food and good beer.
Our friends at The Sloop know how to look after our beers, and have been the perfect pub for a St Ives trip for many, many years.
We love nothing more than building a few sandcastles with the kids then enjoying some Cornish craft beer in a prober Cornish seaside pub.
Bude.
Up North is the seaside town of Bude, a place with plenty of beaches to enjoy and some top spots for food and drink.
Whether you take your own cold one, like a Helles Cornish Lager, for enjoying on the sands of Summerleaze, or if you drop into a great venue like the Break Bar Bude - you know you'll be quenching a thirst after a day of British seaside nostalgia. Get in the sea, explore the cast path, eat the food and drink the beer.
Happy days.
