5 Reasons we had to bring back the hazy IPA Mean As
Mean As is back, we just had to re-brew this hoppy and hazy craft beer and we've timed it perfectly with the return of spring. Is there anything better than a bold and refreshing hazy IPA on sunny day? We don't think so, so here's 5 reasons we bought it back, or rather, 5 reasons you need to get amongst this 6% ABV DDH NZ IPA.

1. Amazing Taste
She's a double dry-hopped New Zealand IPA that boasts a complex and satisfying drinking experience, but the main point here is that she is bold and bursting with flavour. A proper modern craft IPA, it's one that is a delight to drink and is dangerously moreish. You'll enjoy flavours of citrus fruit, with Apricot and Orange giving way to Lemon and Lime, with bubbling undertones of herbs like Basil. It's a hazy beer to sip and savour!
2. A Blend of Three NZ Hops
The distinctive character of Mean As comes from the use of three hop varieties from New Zealand: Motueka, Nelson Sauvin and Riwaka. This combination creates a citrus explosion of lime and orange with a touch of herbal notes, delivering a refreshing and aromatic experience that sets it apart from other IPAs. As modern craft brewers we love playing with hops, and this is a beer that allows us to really experiment, with this year's beer using a slightly different blend of NZ hops yet still offering those big flavours and aromas.
3. Amazing Aromas
Pouring Mean as will introduce you to enticing aromas of mixed citrus fruits supported by subtle herbal hints. These scents not only enhance the drinking experience but also showcase the quality and freshness of the ingredients used to create this hop forward craft beer. We love brewing craft beers that are enjoyable for all the senses, and we particularly love crafting beers that smell delicious when you crack the can open, Mean As is no exception in this area.
4. Adding to the IPA Line-Up
At St Ives Brewery, we pride ourselves on offering a diverse selection of IPAs, each with its own distinct character. Mean As sits alongside our everyone's favourite Slipway IPA and the super hazy and hoppy Alora IPA, providing craft beer lovers with a full spectrum of hoppy experiences. Whether you prefer a classic, a sessionable brew, or something even more bold and tropical, Mean As fills a vital spot in our line up. It also means that our mixed cases of hazy IPAs are better than ever, with three outstanding beers to enjoy - fine examples of Cornish craft beers.
5. You asked
From our taproom to local pubs and online reviews, one thing was clear: people wanted Mean As back. Customers raved about its unique flavour profile, with plenty labelling it their favourite. In bars and trade accounts, it was one of the first to sell out, meaning that as summer approaches we need to make sure we able to provide the goods once again. Bringing it back was an easy decision, we love this hazy craft beer as much as you do.
