Pale ales area a stalwart in the beer scene. The beer style is loved for its refreshing bitterness, vibrant aromas, and wide variety of flavours, they offer something for every beer lover. Here at St Ives Brewery, we take immense pride in crafting two exceptional craft pale ales – Hella Pale Ale and Summer Hazy Pale Ale. Each has its own distinct personality, but both share the core qualities that make a great pale ale truly special.
What Defines a Great Pale Ale?
We think that a pale ale should be an approachable, hop-forward beer that demonstrates real balance between malt and hops. The malt is responsible for the body, while the hops deliver bitterness, flavour, and aroma. Great pale ales strike a perfect balance between bitterness and sweetness, and they are often defined by their citrusy, floral, and fruity characteristics, which come from the hops that the brewer chooses to use.
Pale ales range in colour and appearance, from golden to amber and sit on the moderate ABV strength level. Their slightly dry finish and crisp bitterness make them incredibly refreshing, ideal for both sunny days and cosy evenings.
Hella Pale Ale: Bold, Crisp, and Clean
Hella Pale Ale is one of our core range beers, a more traditional and sessionable pale ale. She is a Gluten free and hyper refreshing pale ale, that hints at fruit and is particularly well balanced.

Hops: Chinook, Cascade, Citra & Simcoe

Aroma: Fresh Floral & Summer Fruit Notes
Flavour: Subtle Strawberry & Malty Tones

Summer Hazy Pale Ale: Light, Fruity, and Easy-Drinking
If you prefer hazy and fruity then our Summer Hazy Pale Ale is the perfect beer for you. It's a lighter take on the pale ale style, with a focus on fruity and refreshing flavours and a hazy, unfiltered appearance.
Malts: Extra Pale Ale Malt, Torrefied Wheat, Golden Naked Oats, Vienna Malt
Hops: Galaxy, Mosaic
Appearance: Golden, Partially Hazy but not opaque
Aroma: Citrus, Coconut, Summer Fruits
