New Years eve in St Ives (and proper craft beer)
Or home in Cornwall is famed for many things, but one of our favourites is New Years' Eve. St Ives is a proper decent night out to see in the new year, offering you the opportunity to enjoy a party atmosphere, then dust off the hangover with a Cornish coast dip on New Years' Day.
St Ives is a special place at the best of times, none more-so than on New Years Eve. By early evening, the streets are already buzzing, with locals and visitors alike set to enjoy the frivolities of a good old fashioned party. Talking of fashion, the towns revellers are, 99% of the time, adorned in fancy dress. It's quite the sight. There’s no theme, and no rules, usually just something that adds a whole heap of fun to the celebrations. From pirates and penguins to glittering disco divas, the costumes are half the fun, and you’ll struggle to find another New Year’s celebration with quite so much personality.
As pubs, bars and restaurants fill up, the harbour lights twinkle and the sound of music fills the cobbled streets. It’s a night that is welcoming to all who venture out, which is only right as it's not exactly the warmest time of year to be dressed in Hawaiian fancy dress.
As the main event approaches, and the countdown is in sight, there is the usual building of excitement and anticipation. People gather along the harbour walls, on the beaches, and at vantage points by the sea. When the moment arrives there is dancing, celebration and a tip top fireworks display that illuminates the sky over our quaint little Cornish home. It's part of tradition here in St Ives, and something we love to shar with others.
