A Day out in our home town of St Ives
St Ives is magical, and if you are waking up here on holiday then you'll be excited for the day ahead. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend escape or simply looking for inspiration for a day out, we’ve set out what a great day could look like for you.
Start your day with a stroll through the stunning cobbled lanes of St Ives. The sea’s never far away, so head to Porthmeor to feel the breeze and breathe in the salt air. It's a picturesque beach, with white sand and beautiful turquoise tones from the sea, backed by the Tate Gallery and with Clodgy Point to West and the Island to the East.
For breakfast, tuck into something hearty at Porthmeor Café, a real favourite with views that are hard to beat as it sits at the edge of the beach looking out to sea. There's plenty of choices, whether you want a big breakfast or a lighter bite.
You can then aim to walk off your breakfast on the South West Coast Path. We love heading out towards Clodgy Point for sweeping cliff views and the soothing sound of the Atlantic. The light and landscape here have inspired artists for generations, with views across St Ives bay towards Godrevy Lighthouse it's not hard to see why!
Once back in town, take your pick of St Ives' artistic offerings for the afternoon. The Tate St Ives is a must, perched above the beach with exhibitions that are always stunning and thought provoking, it's a place that is great even if you aren't an 'art lover' per se. Or explore the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, a lush, tucked-away space filled with the forms and textures that made her a modernist legend.
Once the sun begins to dip, it’s time for a pint. Head down to The Sloop Inn, one of the most quintessential St Ives experiences and one of Cornwall’s oldest and most atmospheric pubs. Settle into a bench outside with a pint of our Slipway IPA or Hella Pale Ale in hand, brewed by us at our home around the corner in Hayle.
And when it’s time for something more substantial, take a short wander to The Hub on the harbour front. Burgers, brisket, and banging food all pair beautifully with the option to enjoy one of our beers with your dinner.
That should be a pretty decent day out, although if there's waves, we recommend you drop everything and get in the sea. If you don't know how to surf fear not, the team at St Ives Surf School can get you up and riding. That's a neat way to work up a thirst and hunger, or perhaps a day building sandcastles with the kids could do the same.
See you in St Ives.
